Images from our latest Task Team event at Broadoak Basin, Whint, St Helens (22/11/25).

We removed poor-quality self-seeded saplings, cleared dense scrub, and cleaned all the coping stones. The transformation is incredible — people can actually see the basin again!

We believe this structure was built around the same time as the canal, circa 1757, making it the first basin of its kind in the country.

More updates on this area coming soon — watch this space!

A huge thank-you to everyone who came along to help. Your support is truly appreciated.

If you’d like to join us in future as we continue restoring the first industrial canal in the country, please keep an eye out for our next notice.
