Fundraising
Your support will help us as a charity to preserve, improve and restore the canal that you love for the benefit of communities along its route. We need you by our side to keep the canal alive with nature, to celebrate its heritage and to be a catalyst for economic regeneration.
Every penny makes a difference! You can help us in a variety of ways as explained below.
If you’re able to support us with our fundraising we will be delighted to hear from you. Perhaps you can run a fundraising activity, or you’re experienced in making grant applications or you are aware of an organisation that could assist us?

Gift Aid
SCRS is a registered charity (number 702571). If you are a UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your donation or membership subscription by asking for your payment to be treated as Gift Aid. For every £1 that we receive, the kind folks at HM Revenue & Customs allow us to reclaim 25p in tax. Your £1 is worth £1.25 to us!
Lottery
St Helens Community Lottery is an online weekly lottery that raises money for local good causes including the Sankey Canal Restoration Society – and you don’t even need to live in St Helens. Play the lottery from the comfort of your armchair and nominate SCRS – it’s that simple!
Tickets for the lottery cost just £1 per week with a JACKPOT of £25,000 plus many smaller value prizes.
A weekly draw takes place every Saturday night. Every ticket has a 1 in 50 chance of winning a prize every week – that’s better than the National Lottery and the Health Lottery. Match all 6 numbers and you win the JACKPOT! From every £1 ticket you buy, 60p will go to your nominated good cause and improve the local community.
We sometimes have the opportunity to apply for grant funding to help us to deliver a project. We are very grateful to the awarding bodies for their vital support. Recently for example we secured funding from St Helens Borough of Culture 2023 to produce a children’s canal education learning pack and a short animated video.
Details of any future grant awards will appear in Latest News.
