Get Involved

We love support from individuals and organizations who share our passion for the Sankey Canal. There are many ways to get involved!

Whether you’re drawn to local heritage, childhood memories, historic preservation, or simply enjoying and improving the outdoors, there’s something here for you.

Membership

Join the Society and be part of something special! The more members we have, the more we can achieve.

We have big ambitions for the canal corridor and want to deliver projects that benefit communities. As a member, you can contribute ideas, vote at our AGM, join work parties, attend events, and help shape the future of the Society. Make new friends and be part of this exciting journey!

Volunteer with Us

Our volunteers keep the canal alive maintaining, improving, and restoring it for all to enjoy.

Whether you can give a few hours or a regular commitment, there’s a role for you from joining a team or leading a task to becoming a Trustee. Everyone has something to offer, whatever your skills or experience.

We’re always looking for help in areas like marketing, events, fundraising, education, IT, engineering, ecology, and more  but enthusiasm is all you really need. Volunteering is rewarding, social, and fun!

Task Team

Our Task Team meets every couple of weeks, usually at weekends, to help care for and improve the canal corridor. Activities include fence repairs, vegetation clearing, path maintenance, litter removal, bridge painting, and even uncovering hidden structures.

We work with local councils and community groups to keep the canal a safe, attractive, and enjoyable space — and soon we’ll be taking on restoration and construction projects too.

Everyone’s welcome — no experience needed. Join for a full session or just part of the day, do what you can, and enjoy fresh air, friendly company, and the satisfaction of making a difference.

Corporate and Group Volunteering

Many organisations encourage staff to volunteer — whether for team-building days, personal development, or community projects. Whether it’s a few hours, a full day, or something regular, every bit helps!

We welcome volunteers with professional, practical, or supporting skills — from planning and admin to hands-on canal maintenance. We work with local councils and community groups to improve the canal corridor and will soon be expanding into restoration and construction projects.

Get involved, make a difference, and enjoy doing something worthwhile together.
